This is due to the low cost required to run and maintain them, as well as the low environmental impact compared to gas-powered vehicles which rely on extracting and processing fossil fuels. As the demand for electric cars rises (sales of electric vehicles surpassed 2.1 million in 2019), their market is projected to dramatically increase. Though the pandemic may affect this projection in the immediate future, it’s clear the shift away from vehicles that run on fossil fuels has begun. However, as electric vehicle production increases, so does the concern over safe electric vehicle battery disposal.
